What makes life interesting?

I think we all get to a point where everything feels mundane. The zest for life seems to diminish over time, and the realities of life swallow us whole.

One thing comes to mind while reflecting on this. Nature always follows the same patterns, yet it never seems to lose its glow. For instance, the sun always rises in the east and sets in the west, and the moon goes through the same eight phases every 29.5 days. We don't pay much attention to this because it's the natural order, but imagine how incredible it is that these patterns have remained unchanged for billions of years! Even so, the beauty of a sunset and the wonder of a full moon are what make these forces of nature all the more enchanting.

In this big world, there's you. One of billions of people roaming around the Earth, trying to make sense of everything around you. Waking up in the morning and going about your day, with no clue what lies ahead. Unlike other forces of nature that move only by instinct and/or pattern, you have a mind and a conscience. You can make choices and learn to live by them. You study and discover new things. You create and innovate solutions. You build and design as you desire. Yet, you can also feel empty, lost, and purposeless.

Back to my original question: what makes life interesting? From what I have observed, it is not what we do or create that makes life truly worth living. Everything that was meant to sustain us exists around us. We keep looking for something new, different, or extravagant to feel satisfied. New brands, new models, new trends... Yet, how quickly does our attention shift when what was new is replaced with something 'better'?

I am the type of girl who likes a small shift in my daily routine to make my days a little more exciting. It could be taking a midday walk, trying a new cooking style, or reading a book. This motivates me to be even more productive during the day. However, looking back at some of my fondest memories, they're rarely of when I did something grand or tried something new, but usually of when I watched the sunset, listened to the birds chirping at the break of dawn, or laughed with someone so hard I cried. It's when I appreciated the small things around me that I would otherwise easily take for granted.

So, what truly makes life interesting? It's up to you. It's about how keen you are to enjoy what nature brings. It's about deciding to no longer wait for what's new, but to recognize with gratitude what's been right there before your eyes.
